In an extraordinary show of bipartisan support, eighteen amicus curiae briefs—representing hundreds of individuals, companies, scholars, and public interest groups—have been filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in support of the Liberty Justice Center’s legal challenge to the Liberation Day tariffs in V.O.S. Selections, Inc. v. Trump.
“We are pleased to have eighteen amicus briefs—representing leading legal minds, former government officials, small business owners, and other respected voices—supporting our case challenging the ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs. Each brief represents a unique voice standing with our clients and urging the court to uphold the rule of law,” said Jeffrey Schwab, Senior Counsel and Director of Litigation at the Liberty Justice Center.
The amicus briefs reflect a uniquely broad and diverse coalition, including:
- 191 Members of the United States Congress
- Advancing American Freedom, Inc.
- Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law
- Burlap & Barrel, Inc.
- Cato Institute
- Chamber of Commerce of the United States and Consumer Technology Association
- Consumer Watchdog
- Crutchfield Corporation
- Goldwater Institute and Dallas Market Center
- Institute for Policy Integrity at NYU School of Law
- New Civil Liberties Alliance
- Protect Democracy Project
- Vikram David Amar and Mickey Edwards
- Peter Sage
- Princess Awesome, LLC; Stonemaier, LLC; 300 Below, Inc.; Upward Glance, LLC; KingSeal Corporation; Mischief, LLC; Spielcraft Games, LLC; Rookie Mage Games, LLC; XYZ Game Labs, Inc.; Tinkerhouse, Inc.; Reclamation Studio, LLC
- Former Government Officials and Legal Scholars, including Michael B. Mukasey, Harold Koh, Charles T. Hagel, John C. Danforth, and others

- Legal Scholars, including George Allen, Joshua Claybourn, Harold Koh, Alexander Volokh, Richard A. Epstein, Alan Sykes, Gerard Magliocca, and Judge John Daniel Tinder
These groups and individuals span the ideological and institutional spectrum, from conservative think tanks and libertarian legal scholars to progressive watchdogs and bipartisan former government officials and policymakers. Despite their ideological differences, they agree on one critical point—the president overstepped legal and constitutional bounds by imposing sweeping tariffs without congressional approval and under a law (IEEPA) that was never meant to authorize such trade measures.
Oral arguments in the government’s appeal are scheduled for July 31 at 10 am EDT before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. The arguments will be available via livestream here.
Following the hearing, the Liberty Justice Center will host a media roundtable to discuss next steps in the case and answer questions from members of the press. To RSVP for the roundtable, visit the Liberty Justice Center’s media reservations page here.
