About the Role
The Client Engagement & Research Attorney plays a critical role at the front end of LJC’s litigation pipeline. This position serves as the primary point of contact for individuals seeking representation and is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and developing potential cases aligned with LJC’s mission.
This is a non-litigating role focused on strategic case identification, legal analysis, and client engagement. The ideal candidate combines strong legal judgment with exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, compelling narratives.
Key Responsibilities
Client Intake & Case Evaluation
- Review and assess incoming legal inquiries to determine alignment with LJC’s mission and criteria for precedent-setting constitutional litigation
- Conduct initial screenings and fact-gathering to evaluate the strength, scalability, and impact of potential cases
- Serve as the primary gatekeeper for the litigation pipeline, ensuring high-quality case selection
Client Engagement & Relationship Management
- Act as the first point of contact and “face of the firm” for prospective clients
- Conduct interviews to gather key facts, explain LJC’s mission and approach, and set clear expectations about the legal process
- Maintain professional, empathetic, and mission-aligned communication with all prospective and current clients
Legal Research & Case Development
- Conduct in-depth legal research on constitutional issues, legal theories, and relevant precedents
- Analyze potential claims to assess viability, risk, and potential for broader impact
- Draft internal memoranda summarizing facts, legal arguments, and strategic recommendations for the litigation team
Communications & Content Collaboration
- Partner with the communications team to translate complex legal matters into accessible, compelling content
- Research and contribute to content for LJC’s Substack, podcast, and other public-facing platforms
- Serve as a liaison between legal and communications teams to support a coordinated editorial strategy
Data & Pipeline Management
- Maintain and improve intake systems to track inquiries, trends, and case outcomes
- Identify patterns in government overreach or civil liberties violations that may inform future litigation strategy
- Ensure accurate and consistent documentation of all case-related activity
- Monitor and analyze emerging legal trends, legislation, and regulatory developments to identify potential threats to constitutional rights and proactively surface opportunities for future litigation
Legal Writing & Brief Review
- Review, edit, and cite-check legal briefs, motions, and other filings to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency with LJC’s style guide and standards
- Verify citations and authorities using legal research tools (e.g., LexisNexis) to ensure precision and credibility
- Assist in maintaining consistency in tone, formatting, and legal strategy across filings
- Support the litigation team in preparing high-quality written work under tight deadlines
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) with strong knowledge of constitutional law
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Ability to quickly assess complex factual scenarios and apply legal frameworks
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non-lawyers
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple inquiries and priorities simultaneously
- Strong alignment with LJC’s mission and commitment to individual liberty and limited government
