(Chicago, Ill.)—As U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s refund system goes live today, the Liberty Justice Center is directing small businesses nationwide to its Tariff Equity Refund Resource for America (TERRA)—a free, centralized platform designed to help businesses recover unlawfully collected tariffs.
Liberty Justice Center led the legal fight against these tariffs on behalf of businesses across the country, taking the case to the U.S. Supreme Court. Now, as refunds begin, the organization is focused on ensuring those same businesses can navigate the process and recover what they are owed—without paying unnecessary fees or giving up a portion of their claims.
“We took this fight all the way to the Supreme Court on behalf of small businesses, and we’re not stopping now,” said Sara Albrecht, Chairman of the Liberty Justice Center. “We are a nonprofit law firm—our only goal is to help businesses recover every dollar they are owed, not to take a percentage of it. At a time when others are looking to profit off confusion, we are making this process clear, accessible and free.”
At the same time, Liberty Justice Center continues to challenge additional tariff authority, including under Section 122, in Burlap and Barrel, Inc. v. Trump, argued before the U.S. Court of International Trade on April 10.
As the refund process begins, some companies are offering to purchase tariff refund claims or charge significant fees to assist businesses. TERRA provides a free alternative—clear, reliable guidance designed to keep 100% of refunds in the hands of the businesses that paid them.
What TERRA Provides:
- Step-by-step guidance for navigating the federal refund system including a refund readiness checklist
- Clear explanations of eligibility, timelines and requirements
- Practical advice for working with brokers and shipping carriers
- Updates on ongoing litigation and refund developments
“Our mission is straightforward,” Albrecht added. “We fought to stop unlawful tariffs, and now we’re making sure small businesses actually see that money returned.”
