Sarah Childress

Staff Attorney, Liberty Justice Center

Sarah Childress is a Staff Attorney at Liberty Justice Center.

She brings a decade of litigation and legal services experience in both state and local government.

Sarah most recently served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal Appeals Section of the Office of the Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

As a trial litigator Sarah prosecuted heavy and varied caseloads in urban and rural jurisdictions from Piedmont to Tidewater to Southwest Virginia. Her dockets included general prosecution cases, larceny and fraud, violent crime, DUI and DUID, conspiracies, and sexual and domestic violence. She previously served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for Scott County, Wise County and the City of Norton, the City of Norfolk, and Nelson County. Sarah has also worked in Roanoke as a Magistrate for the 23rd Judicial District of Virginia and in Lynchburg as an Assistant and Special Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney.

Sarah is a 2013 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law where she was Articles Editor for the Virginia Sports & Entertainment Law Journal. She also interned at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Virginia in Charlottesville. Prior to law school she freelanced in Philadelphia as a conductor, pianist, organist, accompanist, and vocal coach. Sarah received her B.M. in Piano Performance and her B.A. in Political Science from Indiana University in 2003, and her M.M. with a double major in Choral Conducting and Piano Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in 2006.

She lives near Big Stone Gap, Virginia, surrounded by the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains and Appalachian culture.
