On June 12, the Liberty Justice Center and the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty filed an amicus brief in Vitsaxaki v. Skaneateles Central School District on behalf of Dr. Erica Anderson, a clinical psychologist with over four decades of experience working with children and adolescents who experience gender incongruence.
The amicus brief argues that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit should overturn a district court’s prior ruling in the case, which found that schools which hide students’ gender transitions are merely making decisions about their “manner of instruction”—rather than illegally concealing medical information about minor children from their parents and guardians.
“Public school administrators have no right to cut parents and guardians out of their children’s lives upon enrollment,” said Emily Rae, Senior Counsel at the Liberty Justice Center. “We will continue to fight for parents and students across California to ensure parental rights are protected.”
