The taxi lobby has been trying to get Chicago to destroy ridesharing services like UberX and Lyft, but it hasn’t worked because the services are just too popular in the city.
So now the taxi industry has turned to Springfield for help crushing the competition, and it looks like state legislators might be about to give them what they want.
Taxi-industry lobbyists and legislators have worked out a deal behind closed doors and are trying to get an anti-competitive bill passed as quickly as possible. If the bill passes, it could kill ridesharing as we know it in Chicago and take thousands of jobs with it – for no reason except to please a private special-interest group.
