A Supreme Court decision last year shook up decades of labor law and the effects are still being argued. The case is Janus vs. the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. The high court ruled that public employees of state or local governments can’t be forced to join or pay labor unions. Why? It’s a free speech violation — forcing workers to support political positions that unions advocate.
